May Forum 2023 was a great success!

May marks the start of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage
Month. On the first Saturday of May 2023, the 4th annual May Forum kick-started its first in-person celebration at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, with livestream via zoom. This event showcased the best of Asian Culture, promoted civic involvement, and highlighted the achievement and contributions of Asian Americans in various fields. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz attended this celebration event and deliver remarks. It was a great success!

The event featured panel discussions with prominent Asian community members from different fields, sharing their personal stories and professional experiences on how Asian Americans could improve Asian Americans’ participation and representation in local communities, governments, and the democratic process. Four sessions were included in the May Forum 2023:

  1. Engagement: civic engagement – challenges and opportunities for Asian Americans
  2. Heritage: sharing Asian American arts and cultures with friends and neighbors within
    communities
  3. Creation and innovation: AAPI-led entrepreneurship within big corporations
  4. Youth and future: flourishing as second-generation AAPI Americans

This celebratory event was free and open to everyone, regardless of race, gender, or religion. It took place at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Reception Hall) on May 6th, 10am-12pm.

The Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA) has provided generous support for the May Forum 2023. MIA has a large collection of Asian historical and artistic artifacts in the US. This year, from March 4, 2023 – May 21, 2023, MIA featured a special exhibition, Eternal Offerings: Chinese Ritual Bronzes, designed by Oscar-winning Artistic Director Tim Yip.

The May Forum is organized by a group of Chinese American volunteers who have been working on promoting Asian Culture Heritage and Community involvement in the Twin Cities since 2020.
