There was a good buzz inside the Gramercy Park party room in Bloomington on March 8 where the Chinese Heritage Foundation was going to present an update on its “Dream of the Red Chamber” commission.  A dream and vision by Ming Tchou, the founder of CHF, was inching ever closer to reality.

As one of the first universities to resume academic exchanges with China in 1979, the University of Minnesota hopes to continue its strong commitment to developing more exchange and partnership opportunities with China in the next 100 years. During the 2013-2014 academic year, the University of Minnesota will celebrate China 100, a yearlong celebration honoring the first students from China and the wealth of connections that have come since. It recognizes the past and looks at future engagements between the University of Minnesota and China.

Iconic David Fong’s restaurant featured in “Bloomington Mapworks III” art exhibit

In addition to the many awards that David Fong's Restaurant has earned over its 55 years in Bloomington (9329 Lyndale Ave S.), the Minnesota landmark can now add another to its résumé. The restaurant is one of many landmarks featured in the “Bloomington Mapworks III” art exhibit on display through Oct. 4 at the Bloomington Theatre and Art Center.

“Bloomington Mapworks III” is the third in a series of related exhibits curated by artist Erik Sletten.

Ming Tchou: her life and contribution to the Twin Cities' Chinese community

Web MingToasting r72The Chinese Heritage Foundation Friends held a dinner for 115 guests at Hotel Sofitel last month to honor one of the most respected and well-known figures in Minnesota’s Chinese community — Ming Tchou, CHFF’s founder. It was not only a celebration of Ming’s 89th birthday and the amazing life she has led, but also recognition of her efforts and achievements toward promoting Chinese culture and history in the United States. For years she has facilitated the education of Americans about China, as well as provided ways to connect Chinese and American people in Minnesota.
