The 14th Dalai Lama arrived in Minneapolis on May 7, 2011. The much anticipated visit, "One Heart, One Mind, One Universe" was co-hosted by the University of Minnesota's Center for Spirituality & Healing and the Tibetan American Foundation (TAFM).

As a Chinese language teacher at Patrick Henry High School, I have the privilege to work in a very diverse school. Culture is alive at Patrick Henry High, especially at this time for many of my Hmong students as they celebrate Hmong New Year wearing the traditional dress of their Hmong heritage. Many of my students are Hmong, and during my own past travels in Yunnan, southern China I have seen how similar the traditional dress of some of the minority populations mirror the clothing that I see my students wearing during times of celebration or dance performances. These particular students share a history with China. All of my students are interested in Chinese culture, and I, being a non-native Chinese language teacher, strive to make every effort to support their interest in Chinese culture, by trying to make contact with authentic Chinese art, music, dance and theater performance if possible.
You could say that Andrew Moy is your average middleschooler. He likes computers, video games, and learning magic tricks. What you didn't know, but would probably find out if you talked to him, is that he has landed roles across the Twin Cities theatre scene and aspires to eventually become a game show host.

Traditional Chinese brushwork to Hong Zhang is not solely an artistic expression involving Chinese history and prose. It is merely a channel, a means, an art form where life, cultures and personal histories can be depicted. Zhang teaches his students to not only master the traditional brushwork techniques but to also explore how to apply it for expressing their individuality and backgrounds. He tells his students to infuse their own culture, history and passion into their pieces.
